Where would you like to see Banzai in 10 years?
Ten movies and twenty CDs later with a staff of 5-10
all making the type of money we need to make to live and continuing to
support really cool artists. The artists and projects should need and
want support from a company like us
like feeding a wandering armadillo
that just happened to walk onto the UNC campus---funky and unique and
a story you'll tell forever. -DW
What advice do you recommend for people who want to do the same thing?
Don't do more than what your resources allow you to
do
but think bigger than your resources. If you want to sell 10,000
CDs believe you're going to sell 100,000. If you're not up to something
larger than what you already know then don't bother
you're just going
through the motions. If you're getting
everything done that you plan to every day then you're not doing enough.
If you're not getting half of what you want to do everyday then you're
doing too much. Don't worry what other people think
if you have good
taste and you like it then that's all that matters. If you don't ask for
what you want or
what you need then you're probably never going to get it. Don't tell me
why it can't or shouldn't be done, tell me how you're going to do it!
And last, I don't want to hear about it if you're not busting your butt
trying to get it. -DW
Did you go to film school?
Our film school is making movies. Stop talking about
living life and start doing it! Like all film makers I believe our films
are going to get better as we make more of them. Anyone who has ever made
a film
you totally rock and you get my personal handshake and a free
Joe Williams CD
just email me
and let me know who you are, what film you made and I'll send it to you.
-DW
What's up with Dog Nights?
As for Dognights
it's semi in the doghouse. And
for a first film I ain't going to be apologetic. We're working on the
glitches and maybe I won't make the same mistakes for other 35mm projects.
Presently the director's cut is 13 minutes long. We may release the original
version in a feature length format and we're still brainstorming to see
how that might look and how we should or shouldn't do it. What do you
do with a long movie that's painful to sit through but is still your baby?
Raise it with the same kind of love, be patient, maybe something great
will come of it, and there are other great adventures in life so I can't
get down about losing it this way
Ones first movie is always supposed
be like this
otherwise what would I have to look forward to. -DW
