The Waltz
Me and the waltz, we're not made for each other
She's a little too old, a bit too well-defined
She's too close for too long, more graceful than I
She's a moon slipping over a fenceline
And its obvious how hard I try
Me and the waltz, we don't move well together
She puts me through motions my body dislikes
And I'm awkward, I'm backward, I can't find that rhythm
Though I honestly feel it inside
The truth is, whenever I try it, its along the lines of
'Oh! Sorry, sorry, didn't see your
Oops, your foot, other left, left
Sorry and the arm up, wrist too tight
(God aren't we over yet?)
'Oh, settle down, smile, try to
Sorry and the bend, other step, step
Ooh, went a little too far, too fast'
How could I forget, could I forget
The way I appear when I waltz
But me and the waltz have this strange understanding
As people with poor sense of timing must do
She'll forgive me my unbalanced, strange variations
And afford us a good turn or two
In exchange for the most I can do
In spite of all the 'Oh! Sorry, sorry, didn't see
your
Oops, your foot, other left, left
Sorry and the arm up, wrist too tight
(God aren't we over yet?)
'Oh, settle down, smile, try to
Sorry and the bend, other step, step
Ooh, went a little too far, too fast'
How could I forget, all the
'Oh, not bad! Oops, well, I
Still have another one (two, three)
Sorry, and the turn, better than the last
Ooh, not much better' - see, that's what I get
For the way that I feel when I waltz
