Daddy's Recliner
Well, well, peek 'round the corner
Well, well, but is there anyone there?
Well, well, with nobody watching
With no one the wiser, how would anyone care?
Daddy's recliner was the old man's treasure
Daddy's recliner was deep and wide
It was hand-stitched leather with a pocket for the channel-changer
Gold-plated insulated cup on the side
Daddy's recliner was an unknown pleasure
Daddy's recliner was the old man's pride
He could speed shift the sideboard lever with the pearly handle
Up popped the pedestal so feet can ride
He said 'All these things in the apartment, I'll give
you children
'All these things, I will give them to you
'You can live here in harmony, life's lap of luxury
'Just one thing I forbid unto you.'
Daddy's recliner was the old man's treasure
Daddy's recliner took a year to buy
You may touch not the leather-bound surface in the den, or, children
All my wrath, all my fury will fly
Well, well, peek 'round the corner
Well, well, but is there anyone there?
Well, well, with nobody watching
With no one the wiser, how would anyone care?
My daddy worked until late in the evening
My mama worked until late at night
My sister said that I was nothing but a chicken
Daddy's recliner was deep and wide
So, one summer day I couldn't take it any longer
I clambered up and gave the treasure a ride
My eyes were opened to the unknown knowledge
Of good and of evil, Lord, I lay down and cried
I felt the churning of the planets in the heavens
I felt the motion on the ocean floor
I felt my sister running by me to the bathroom
I heard my daddy put the key in the door
Well, well, peek 'round the corner
Well, well, but is there anyone there?
Well, well, with nobody watching
With no one the wiser, how would anyone care?
I made a leap and landed high on the sofa
My daddy came and filled the frame of the door
He caught my eyes as I was trying to look casual, he said
'How come you're sitting there so woppy-jawed for?'
I tried to tell him that the sofa was a problem
It's too hard, it makes my tailbone sore
I said the cushion didn't cushion like it oughta'
I heard my perspiration drop on the floor
He said 'Who told you that that sofa was hard, boy
'When all these years its been nothing but nice?
'Did you dare to defy me and ride my recliner? Now
Don't even answer, 'cause you speak with your eyes
'All these things in the apartment, I'll give you
children
'All these things, I will give them to you
'You can live here in harmony, life's lap of luxury
'Just one thing I forbid unto you.'
Daddy's recliner was the old man's treasure
Daddy's recliner was deep and wide
It was hand-stitched leather with a pocket for the channel-changer
Gold-plated insulated cup on the side
Up popped the pedestal so feet can ride
