LISA:So what scenes stood out for you where you
thought to yourself, ' yes, they are going to keep that
TORREY: The argumentative scenes - there was a couple
of scenes where we really showed our differences, where Runyon did
poetry, and one good keeper was when Joanne and Sam kiss. I think
that was a keeper. That should be a keeper, 'cause they were lip-locked
for a while
I was like, 'Go, Sam'
.
L: What do you think was the thing you did the best?
T: Probably the fight scene with me and Sam. I think,
you know, where we both pushed each other, but we knew how far to
go. You're trying to push your fellow actors, to bring out the best
and vice versa, but you know there's a certain line that you shouldn't
cross and that's the point of being professional about your job.
L: I think he'd have crossed the line
he likes
to fight.
T: Well, I like to fight too
L: He's a black belt
I mean, you're a big guy
T: See, I like to fight too
but, I know we're
not going to try to hurt each other. That defeats the purpose.
L: I didn't know that. I was as far away from you
guys as possible.
T: But that was the illusion that we wanted to give,
that things were out of control - me and Bay Bay got in each other's
face. I mean, I'm not going to just try and get in anybody's face
whether it's Bay Bay, Sam, Runyon
any of the cast members,
but you do what you've got to do. But you always try to be respectful.
After the shoot, I said "Sam, I wasn't trying to do anything
"
and he said "Yeah, man, I know, it's cool
" you know
"That
was a good scene we brought up
cool" And there was no
animosity.
L: Well, that's good. Is there anything, looking back
that you wish you'd said or done while we were in there
or
not done?
T: No - I think I gave all I can give - said all I
can say.
L: Are you excited about seeing the final?
T: I would like to see it. I'd like to get a reel
to I can be able to promote this beautiful craft that people have
of acting, and being able to show emotions and what not.
That's why I'm in the business. I'm in the business to entertain.
It is not about the money - it's not about the fame or anything.
I just enjoy making movies, I enjoy doing plays. I enjoy being somebody
other than myself. I would enjoy and welcome the challenge.
L: So if Banzai does another film -
T: I would love to have the chance to audition and
give them my best.
L: Did you have to audition for this?
T: No, I don't think I had to audition because he
saw me audition for Dog Nights. I got a call back and although I
didn't get it, I sent him a thank you letter, and I think in retrospect,
when they came up with another project, they remembered me, and
he told my agent he wanted me to be in this project. I thought about
it and I said, hey, at least he thought about me at the beginning
of this project. So I thought it was a good thing for me to do to
challenge myself.
